Boris Johnson decision on Cummings counts as another COVID-19 failure.

It almost seems as though he’s failing on purpose.

Boris Johnson today has shown his true colours when talking about the COVID-19 regulations. He has shown that little does he care about what his team of advisors and workers, do behind the stage.

A few days ago, this was demonstrated with his advisor Dominic Cummings, who preferred to go with the “caring father act” without any kind of hesitation.

Even when someone can state, that Cummings had good intentions, you have to judge his acts and not picture him as a father, but as the Prime Minister’s Advisor. This tittle comes close if not second to that of the Prime Minister, and for that reason, we need to judge Cummings not as a citizen, but as a man of power and influence, such big influence to even dictate what the Prime Minister (The voice and hand of the nation!) will do.

Cummings’s decision was not only could affect the wellbeing of his family, but it could also affect that of everyone watching him break the rules. It could propagate this idea of rules on social distance are being lifted, or that even when not lifted they could be broken. This puts an unsafe and dangerous idea on everyone, and could even be the cause of new deaths.

However that happened a few days ago, and Boris, now stirred up things, even more, doing the same thing as he did before: and that is to play favourites in terms of “who I care most about” and defending the actions of Cummings.

In his previous response, he stated that his reason to defend Cummings was that “if you have a particular childcare issues that is a factor that has to be taken into account” This could be reasonable, if not for the fact that births, funerals and important religious gatherings are not `factors that have been taken into account`.

Two whole days later, after watching the outrage all over Social Media and even the front house of his advisor, he again defends Cummings irresponsible actions, calling his actions “understandable”, thus showing how far he will go to save the reputation of his employee rather than the lives of many.

I don’t know what we expected from the same leader, who was alright with the decision of letting working-class citizens go to work, sacrificing their wellbeing for food on the table. Luckily enough he hasn’t yet come to the decision to ease all of the lockdown, but with his current decisions of power and money coming before people, it could be possible that further actions by government workers will be ignored, or even that he will let more people out, even when the statistics on COVID-19 cases don’t recommend it.

I hope he comes to the senses of his actions, and that he sees that what people need right now, is not to know that Cummings actions were reasonable or understandable, but what we need to know is that everyone is following the rules. The people who thrive on example and dependency on the government, need to see that everyone, no matter race, gender, class or background, everyone, is following the rules.

If they see that the chain is being broken, that more and more people are just leaving their houses, it will affect the safety of the country like dominos, but what falls are actual breathing human beings.

We need a better example, and Boris Johnson is lacking it.
